Lincoln Financial Field sits in South Philadelphia, at the southern end of the city’s stadium complex (alongside the Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park). Unlike most US World Cup venues, the stadium has a direct subway connection: SEPTA’s Broad Street Line (BSL) ends at NRG Station, a five-minute walk from the stadium gates. Six matches, including a Round of 16 on July 4 — the most charged civic date of the US 250th anniversary year. The match-day logistics here are unusually clean.
This piece covers match-day logistics. For where to sleep, the walkable Center City core, and how Philadelphia itself works as a destination, see the Philadelphia trip guide.
The schedule
Lincoln Financial Field hosts six matches between June 14 and July 4, 2026 — five group games and a Round of 16, per the Philadelphia Host Committee:

The stadium is officially called “Philadelphia Stadium” for the tournament.
Getting to Lincoln Financial Field
SEPTA Broad Street Line (the default)
The Broad Street Line (Orange Line) is the cleanest match-day option. It runs straight down under Broad Street from North Philadelphia through Center City to the stadium complex. NRG Station is the southern terminus, and the stadium is a 5-minute walk from there.
Fare is $2.50 each way with a SEPTA Key card or contactless tap (SEPTA’s Lincoln Financial Field page). SEPTA runs extra trains before and after matches to absorb the crowd.
From central Center City hotels, the BSL is a 15–20 minute ride.
Driving and parking
Possible — the South Philly sports complex has parking lots — but the Broad Street Line is faster, cheaper, and avoids the post-match traffic on I-95 and the Schuylkill Expressway.
Walking
For travelers staying deep in South Philly (East Passyunk, Pennsport), walking to the stadium is realistic — about 30–40 minutes from East Passyunk.
The post-match return
The BSL runs extra service for 60–90 minutes after each match. NRG Station gets crowded but clears faster than most US stadium transit because the direct northbound trains start almost immediately. Realistic options:
- Take the first BSL train back to Center City — usually faster than waiting for a less crowded one
- Walk to South Street stations on the surface and catch a less-loaded train from there
- Rideshare from a few blocks away rather than the official pickup zone
Budget 30–45 minutes from final whistle back to a Center City hotel.
Fan Festival at Lemon Hill (East Fairmount Park)
The official FIFA Fan Festival Philadelphia runs at Lemon Hill in East Fairmount Park for the full 39-day tournament — June 11 through July 19. The location is unusual: it’s not downtown, but in Fairmount Park, the city’s massive urban park along the Schuylkill River.
Entry is free with advance online registration.
Getting to Lemon Hill:
- SEPTA buses 32 and 48 to Pennsylvania Avenue and Fairmount Avenue
- PHLASH Stop 9 — the seasonal downtown loop with a stop near the park entrance
- Schuylkill River Trail — walkable / bikeable from Center City along the river
- Rideshare from Center City — usually 10–15 minutes
The park setting is different from the urban-plaza Fan Festivals in Boston, Atlanta, or NYC. It’s more of an outdoor festival ground feel, with the river and the parkway nearby.
Where to base for the match days
For all six matches, sleep wherever the rest of your week is — Rittenhouse, Center City, Old City, Fishtown all work. The BSL reaches the stadium from Center City stations in under 20 minutes.
For travelers focused on multiple matches, the South Philly neighborhoods (East Passyunk, Pennsport) put you within walking distance of the stadium and within a 5-minute Broad Street Line ride to the Fan Festival’s nearest bus connection.
Match-day pacing
Philadelphia summer averages 26–32°C with humidity. Lincoln Financial Field is open-roof — the seating bowl gets direct sun for afternoon kickoffs.
Practical notes:
- The 16:00 and 17:00 kickoffs (June 22, 25, 27; July 4) are during the warm part of the day. Sun cover and water are real packing items.
- The 21:00 June 19 kickoff (Brazil vs Haiti) is at a cooler hour but with strong likely Brazilian crowd energy
- Refillable bottles allowed inside
- Light rain layer for the afternoon thunderstorm window
The July 4 Round of 16 specifically
Independence Day. The US 250th anniversary year. A Round of 16 World Cup match in the city where the country was founded.
Plan around it:
- Hotel availability in Center City has been tight for months for July 4 weekend — pre-book or expect to stay outside the city
- The Fan Festival at Lemon Hill will overlap with the city’s July 4 celebrations along the Parkway. The Fairmount Park location works in your favor — it’s close to the main festivities but not on top of them.
- BSL service to the stadium will be at peak capacity. Allow extra buffer for both directions.
- Restaurants in Center City and Old City are booking 4–6 weeks ahead for July 3–5
This is Philadelphia’s biggest civic moment of the year, layered onto a tournament knockout match. The atmosphere will be unique.
